Gough takes his 200th Test wicket

After bowling Pakistan out for 203 just after lunch and enforcing the follow-on, they repeated the trick thanks to four wickets from Andy Caddick and three apiece for Darren Gough and Dominic Cork.

After tea Pakistan were reduced to 87-5 in their second innings, only for Abdur Razzaq to fight back with a half-century.

But when Caddick ended a frustrating spell by persuading him to nibble to Atherton at first slip, England's momentum of earlier in the day was restored.

Caddick's fourth wicket saw Azhar Mahmood caught behind for 24 before Wasim Akram and Rashid Latif fell to Gough.

Cork finished them off with the wicket of Waqar Younis to the delight of the noisy crowd.

Yousuf Youhana had dollied a catch to Vaughan at mid-wicket off Gough while Younis Khan went lbw to Dominic Cork.

The tourists endured the worst possible start when opener Salim Elahi bagged a pair as Thorpe pouched a spectacular diving catch at third slip off Caddick.

The same bowler-fielder combination put paid to Saeed Anwar for eight as England marched towards victory.

Gough earlier took three wickets in an over to wrap up Pakistan's first innings.

The Yorkshire paceman claimed his 200th Test wicket just before lunch and then returned after the break to take two wickets in two balls as Pakistan folded.

Pakistan were still 39 runs short of passing the follow-on mark when Gough finished their reply to England's 391.

England's stand-in captain Alec Stewart immediately enforced the follow-on.

Gough ended with five wickets in the innings and received sterling support from Andy Caddick who took four wickets.

England's cricketer of the year had Rashid Latif caught down the leg-side by Alec Stewart just before lunch to claim his 200th Test victim.

That brought about lunch and after the break Gough struck almost immediately.

Completing his over he caught the outside edge of Pakistan skipper Waqar Younis's bat and Thorpe held the catch at slip.

He then bowled Shoaib Akhtar with the first ball he faced to end the innings.

Gough appeals for Youhana's wicket

Gough had earlier struck in the third over of the day to dent Pakistan's hopes of avoiding the follow-on.

He had Yousuf Youhana trapped lbw for 26 as Pakistan went in search of the 127 runs they needed to make England bat again.

Younis Khan hit Caddick and Gough for boundaries as he showed little sign of concern at his side's difficult position.

But Caddick had Azhar Mahmood caught off an outside edge by Marcus Trescothick at second slip to keep the pressure on.

And then Cork removed Younis after a defiant 58 off just 78 balls.

Wasim Akram was unbeaten on 19 when the end came.
