Martin, Preston: Re: Alex @ 19.38. Season has already gone. No chance we finish top 3 in the WSL again.

It was a disappointing performance in the end from United. They started the game brightly, but then the errors definitely cost them and they got punished by a very good front line from Wolfsburg,

United's 100% record in this competition comes to a brutal halt. United took the lead, but errors in goal and from their outfield players proved costly, with Wolfsburg getting a comfortable 5-2 victory.

That goal is reflective of this match. United errors costing them dearly. Endermann gets on the end of a short back pass from Riviere.

  5. goal

    Vivien Endemann

    Another error from United.

It has been a defensive horror show from United and Jayde Riviere plays a pass back home, but it is massively underhit and falls perfectly for substitute Vivien Endemann. She skips around goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel and slots the ball into the unguarded goal for Wolfsburg's fifth.

A late chance for Gabrielle George, unmarked on the six-yard line and in a central position, but she can't sort out her feet quickly enough and can only steer her shot well wide.

That could've been the lifeline United needed and would have set up a thrilling finish.

A painful one for Leah Galton as she takes a shot straight in the face and has to be checked over, so United are momentarily down to 10.

Exhaustion clearly starting to hit this team, and obviously so. United have gotten through the early stages on energy and skill, but poor management and overwork have clearly brought United to their knees. They need to sort this in the winter window, or the whole season's gone, on both fronts.

United started the game relatively well. It was an even contest between the sides and they had some decent attacks, but errors have really cost them.

Time running out for United, what will be the most frustrating thing for Marc Skinner is all four goals they have conceded came from either direct errors or poor defending. There was a win possible for United tonight but their defending is going to have cost them.

A final change for United with Lisa Naalsund on for Hinata Miyazawa. It would be some fightback if she can inspire her side to come back in this one.

    Wolfsburg 4-2 Manchester United

United are struggling to deal with Wolfsburg now. Ella Peddemors, also one goal away from her hat-trick unselfishly squares the ball for substitute Cora Zicai, but the pass is just ahead of her. She would've had a tap-in at the back post if she had been able to get to the pass.

Lineth Beerensteyn is eyeing up her hat-trick, she runs at Dominique Janssen, who does well to track the run and win a tackle to concede a corner.

From the second phase of that corner, Safia Middleton-Patel gets a weak fist to a punch and the ball drops for Wolfsburg substitute Cora Zicai, although her shot is deflected behind. United then deal with that set piece better.

This is an opportunity for the team to just get together, hit the reset button and try to solve some of the problems and challenges.

How do they stop the dynamism of the Wolfsburg forwards? How do they stop Peddemors in midfield? All whilst trying to get a bit more service to the likes of Malard and Park.

United just havent got the squad for CL and WSL

Running. On. Empty. It’s a shame… United are missing Phallon and it’s tough on Saf.

It comes from a simple ball into Beerensteyn. She does well to roll and drive into the box and everyone just backs off. They have to put pressure on. Middleton-Patel is unsighted as it goes past her into the corner.

  18. goal

GOAL - Wolfsburg 4-2 Manchester Unitedpublished at 65 mins

    Lineth Beerensteyn

She was just denied her second of the night, but Lineth Beerensteyn now has two goals.

Marc Skinner again won't be too happy with his side's defence. Beerensteyn spins past Dominique Janssen and charges at the United defence, with Maya le Tissier backing off.

Beerensteyn shoots low, Safia Middleton-Patel gets a foot to the strike, but it is not enough to keep it out.

A long way back for United.

United need to be more physical. So far they've been bullied.
