Smith is a New Zealand international
|
Jeremy Smith is free to play in Salford's first game of Super League XIV after being cleared of stamping. The New Zealand half-back, a recruit from South Sydney, was put on report during the 18-16 defeat by Hull KR in Friday's pre-season friendly. Salford open their campaign at home to Celtic Crusaders this Saturday. Meanwhile, Wigan's Richie Mathers has been ordered to appear before the Rugby Football League's disciplinary committee for an alleged trip. The former Leeds full-back was sin-binned for the offence on Wakefield winger Dave Halley during Sunday's shock 12-6 home defeat. And he could face further punishment after the RFL match review panel decided to cite him. Mathers has been charged with a grade C offence, which, if proven, carries a suspension of between one and four matches.
