Rob Parker, Salford's new prop-forward signing from Warrington, has been appointed as the Reds' captain.

Parker, replaces Malcolm Alker, who was stripped of the role after a breach of club rules during a January training camp in the United States.

Reds coach Shaun McRae said: "Rob is an outstanding on and off-the-field leader and he's experienced, having captained England in the European Nations."

England international Alker, 30, is in his 13th season at Salford.

Parker said: "I'm excited about taking on the captaincy role.

"I feel part of a club that is very much more a family than a group of rugby players."

Meanwhile, the Reds are holding an investigation into a 'small number' of players who are thought to have broken a curfew at the training camp in Jacksonville, Florida.

"It has been determined that action may be taken against a small number of individuals," said a club statement.

"After a recent internal incident came to light during the training camp in Jacksonville, a small number of Reds players have been found to have broken club rules, and subsequently face internal disciplinary procedures.

"Due to his involvement in a number of minor incidents recently, long-standing skipper Malcolm Alker has had the captaincy of the club removed from him as part of the measures undertaken.

"Other players will be dealt with appropriately."

Salford take on fellow Super League newcomers Celtic Crusaders at The Willows in their opening match, on Saturday.
