Britain's Nicky Hunt won the gold medal in the final of the women's compound tournament in the archery World Cup event in Porec, Croatia.

The Ipswich archer beat home favourite Ivana Buden 113-111 for her first World Cup gold to move into contention for a place in this year's Grand Final.

The match was decided by the last arrow when, with the scores tied, Buden shot an eight but Hunt fired a perfect 10.

"This is a fantastic result," said GB performance manager Barry Eley.

The result was some consolation for Great Britain after all eight of their entries in the Olympic-class recurve competitions failed to reach the knockout stages.

"It is a tremendous achievement by Nicky. It's nothing less than she deserved for all the hard work she puts in and everyone is really chuffed to bits for her," added Eley.

"It was a great performance in a close and tense gold medal match and all credit to Nicky for keeping her nerve despite all the partisan support for Ivana.

"Let us hope for more of the same at the next leg of the competition in Antalya [Turkey] next month."

Hunt is now fourth in the standings after two World Cup rounds of four.

The top four after four rounds qualify for the Grand Final in Copenhagen in September.
