I'm still Histon manager - Alan Lewer

Histon boss Alan Lewer has insisted he is still in charge despite the club advertising for a new manager.

A statement on Histon's website said: "The club is inviting applications for the posts of first team manager."

Lewer told the Cambridge News: "I haven't been sacked and I haven't resigned, so why would I want to apply for a job I'm already doing?"

Histon press officer Graham Eales said: "We are advertising for a manager and hope Alan will apply."

He added: "The club is trying to sort things out for the new season and for the future."

Also, chief executive Allen Soraff recently admitted he had held discussions with former boss Steve Fallon, sparking rumours of a return.

But Fallon has distanced himself from a return to the Glass World Stadium.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I've told Allen that I thought a lot of things weren't right, but whether that's advice or not I don't know."

It has been a turbulent couple of months for the Stutes with changes on and off the pitch.

Gareth Baldwin resigned as chairman in November. His successor, Tony Roach, then fell out with then manager Fallon, forcing the latter out.

Lewer was recruited to take over from him on a non-contract basis.

By April, Roach had also quit the club, leaving director Angelo Dama and Soraff in charge of boardroom affairs.

Meanwhile, midfielder Glen Southam has left the Glass World after terminating the final year of his contract by mutual consent.

Southham, 29, only joined the Stutes in February, but has concerns over the club's financial position.
