Steven Gillespie has admitted he was desperate to join Colchester as soon as he knew the U's were interested.
After a prolonged chase the U's secured the Cheltenham striker's services for a club record fee of more than £400,000.
"I just felt wanted from the first offer they put in and the manager really sold the club to me," Gillespie told BBC Essex.
"It was a pretty easy decision from when I put in the transfer request and was given permission to talk to them."
