Luctonians entertain Longton at Kingsland on Saturday
Luctonians insist they are ready for the step up to national league rugby, but say they are taking nothing for granted in a competitive Midlands One.
Former Lucs chairman Dave Thomas told BBC Hereford & Worcester any suggestion they do not want promotion is wrong.
"If the players are good enough, then we are going up and we are going to look forward to it," he said.
"Anybody who tells you any different, then kindly refer them to me and I will put them right," he added.
After finishing runners-up in Midlands One last season, Luctonians have made an excellent start to their league campaign this time around and sit top with only one defeat in their opening eight matches.
They were on the wrong end of a 20-5 result at Peterborough which Dave Thomas felt was something of a wake-up call.
He was delighted that the squad showed the right attitude to that set-back by bouncing back to hammer Kettering in their next league game.
"We just didn't turn up that day at Peterborough and we got the result we deserved which was very disappointing," he said.
"I felt a little bit sorry for Kettering - they're a good club and they normally play some good rugby but they came here with a number of their first-team squad missing.
"It was evident in the way they played as our lads took them to task and beat them 66-0," he added.
Luctonians will look to maintain their good start to the season when they will entertain Longton at Kingsland on Saturday.
The bottom line is that we know it is going to be a hard game - conditions are going to be difficult but we would expect to win.
Dave Thomas on the prospects for Longton
Dave Thomas knows Longton of old and says that the north Herefordshire club can take nothing for granted.
"It was always a hard game - one we relished and we always liked to beat them," he said.
"They spanked us 18-0 up there last season, but down here they normally struggle against us.
"The bottom line is that we know it is going to be a hard game - conditions are going to be difficult but we would expect to win."
