Kevin St Pierre earns Nottingham Panthers shut-out

Nottingham Panthers netminder Kevin St Pierre made his first shut-out of the season in Wednesday's 5-0 victory over Cardiff at the National Ice Centre.

Cameron Mann scored a hat-trick and there were also goals for player-coach Corey Neilson and Marc Levers.

St Pierre, 34, told BBC Radio Nottingham: "My first goal is to win but if I can get a shut-out with that it's even better.

"I knew it would come eventually if I just kept playing the way I did."

Statistically St Pierre is one of the top three netminders in the league, conceding fewer than three goals a game - form which has helped Panthers win eight of their last 10 matches.

"Right now I am seeing the puck really well and hopefully it goes on for the rest of the year," he added. "In the last three or four weeks we decided to concentrate on defence and the offence will come."

St Pierre had to be at his best in a scoreless opening period against the Devils on Wednesday, but the tables were turned in the second session.

Mann scored three times, with his third goal achieving the milestone of Panthers' 700th at home in the Elite League era.

Player-coach Neilson also found the back of the net as Devils had no answer to Panthers' firepower.

The final session was a much quieter affair, but there was time for Levers to add the fifth with just 13 seconds remaining.
