Kilkenny waiting on ankle injury

Leeds United midfielder Neil Kilkenny must wait to find out if he broke his ankle during Thursday's play-off defeat to Millwall at Elland Road.

The Australian hobbled off during the second half and needs an x-ray to determine how bad the injury is.

The 23-year-old told the club's official website: "Over the weekend it was really swollen so you couldn't tell the extent of the injury.

"I won't miss any games and hopefully I'll be fit for pre-season."

Kilkenny missed out on on pre-season training last summer when he was with the Australian Olympic squad in China.

"For me personally this will be the first pre-season I've had in quite a while," he said.

"When I came back in the summer I wasn't performing to the level I was over the last 12 games or so, particularly when I was playing in central midfield.

We are a young team but we have to deliver and we didn't do that this season

"I'm having an operation on my nose and mouth as well this summer, but hopefully I'll get fully fit and be ready to start again."

Having seen Leeds miss out on promotion via the play-offs, Kilkenny is now hoping he can play a key part in the club gaining automatic promotion next season.

"We expected to get promoted this season, but we didn't get the results earlier on in the campaign," he said.

"Obviously Thursday was very disappointing. It was a big game, and we didn't get the result.

"We are a young team but we have to deliver and we didn't do that this season. We have to perform on the pitch."
