McGrath hit his maiden first-class double century earlier this season
Yorkshire skipper Anthony McGrath says batting frailties were behind their failure to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Friends Provident Trophy.
Defeat by Sussex on Monday meant they cannot qualify for the last eight of the competition.
He told BBC Radio Leeds: "It's fair to say our batting has been disappointing throughout the tournament."
"After winning the first two games it is very disappointing to go out of the competition in this manner."
Despite their exit, McGrath was able to take a positive from Michael Vaughan's knock of 66, his second highest score in all competitions this season.
"He's looked pretty good without really getting a score so that was positive but mainly we're really disappointed to be out of the FPT," added McGrath.
Yorkshire now take on Surrey in their final group game at the Oval on Wednesday, and while the result may be meaningless as far as Yorkshire are concerned, McGrath wants a good result going into their Twenty20 campaign.
"We want to start our Twenty20 campaign on Wednesday, even though it's 50 overs, and take some confidence into our practice days over the weekend.
"With the Twenty20 being split by Championship games it's important to win those first few games."
