Bristol Rovers defender Carl Regan says he has joined a club ready to progress to the next level.

The 28-year-old former MK Dons player was the club's first summer signing, having agreed a two-year contract.

"I met up with the gaffer and Lennie Lawrence and was impressed with what they had to say about the club," he told BBC Radio Bristol.

"I think we can improve on last year, which will be hard but it's all about hard work."

He added: "Every time I've played here Rovers have always been a good team and a very tough team to play against, and the atmosphere at the ground has always been very good."

Rovers were keen to sign a full-back having released Ryan Green and Joe Jacobson.

First-team coach Paul Trollope said: "We've tracked him for a while, and we came across him for Macclesfield in League Two. His composure, defensive abilities and willingness to go forward caught our eye then.

"I watched him closely in the playoffs and I'm delighted to get him. He turned down a contract at Milton Keynes so that shows how far we've come."
