Norwich 1-1 Rotherham

Norwich striker Paul McVeigh's equaliser against Rotherham earned the Carrow Road side a deserved point.

McVeigh struck his 12th goal of the season to cancel out Darren Garner's first-half effort for the Millers.

After a cagey start, the game kicked into life after 11 minutes when Rotherham midfielder John Mullin's fierce volley from long range appeared to be goalbound.

However, Canaries defender Gary Holt was equal to it and charged down a Mullin's effort.

But as the half wore on, Nigel Worthington's men gradually began to edge their way into the contest.

Stout defence

Tenacious midfielder Phil Mulryne had the Canaries' first chance of the match, but his 20-yard volley just missed the target.

But, the Millers maintained their composure and deservedly broke the deadlock after 33 minutes courtesy of Garner's wonderful strike.

Malky Mackay committed a foul on Mullin 25 yards from goal, and from the resultant free-kick, Garner - who had not scored since August - stepped up and fired an unstoppable right-footed strike into the top right-hand corner.

Minutes later, Mark Rivers should have equalised but could not direct a simple header on target.

A few choice words from City boss Nigel Worthington at half-time seemed to have the desired effect on his side as Norwich began the second period with purpose.

And McVeigh equalised on 59 minutes when he waltzed past two Rotherham defenders before curling the ball into the back of the net past keeper Pollitt.

The home side were now well on top, but to Rotherham's credit they continued to defend stoutly and continued to deny the new Canaries strikeforce of McVeigh and Zema Abbey.
