It was all smiles for Millwall at the New Den

Steve Claridge, Robbie Ryan, Paul Ifill and Peter Sweeney scored as Millwall stretched their unbeaten home run to eight games.

Watford have not won away from Vicarage Road since October and rarely threatened despite an erratic display from Lions goalkeeper Tony Warner.

Claridge struck his third goal in four games from close range to put the Lions in front after nine minutes.

But Watford could have been level after 15 minutes.

Arsenal loan star Jermaine Pennant's mazy run bamboozled the home team's defence, and his reverse pass found Gifton Noel-Williams in space.

But Warner was alert to the danger, racing off his line to block with his legs.

Moments later Allan Nielsen fluffed his lines in front of goal, sending a decent chance over the crossbar from six yards.

Ryan doubled the home team's lead in the 41st minute with a powerful drive after Steven Reid's long throw caused chaos in the Watford penalty area.

Kevin Braniff, in for the injured Neil Harris, should have put the result beyond doubt early in the second half but missed the target with only the goalkeeper to beat.

But Ifill soon underlined the home team's dominance with a neat strike past Chamberlin after a sensational turn.

And Sweeney completed a successful afternoon with a spectacular 20-yard lob over Chamberlain with full-time looming.

Millwall: Warner, Lawrence, Ward, Robinson, Ryan, Ifill, Livermore, Wise, Reid, Braniff, Claridge. Subs: Gueret, Kinet, Sweeney, Dunne, Hearn.

Watford: Chamberlain, Ardley, Gayle, Cox, Brown, Pennant, Vernazza, Hyde, Nielsen, Helguson, Noel-Williams. Subs: Robinson, Tommy Smith, Mahon, McNamee, Lee.

Referee: P Taylor (Hertfordshire)
