Club-by-club guide - Sale
Mathew Tait and Sale coach Philippe Saint-Andre

Director of rugby: Philippe Saint-Andre
Captain: Juan Fernandez Lobbe
Ground: Edgeley Park (10,641 capacity)
Last season: GP - 5th ECC - semi-finals
England elite squad: 2 (Tait, Sheridan)

Last year was a pretty disappointing one for Sale, who failed to qualify for the play-offs after losing to London Irish at home on the final day of the regular season.

However, the additions of Wales scrum-half Dwayne Peel and England centre/full-back Mathew Tait (left) to an already potent backline have raised hopes in the North West that the Sharks can launch a serious tilt at repeating their title success of 2006.

Argentine lock Ignacio Fernandez Lobbe has left for Northampton but his brother Juan Martin assumes the captaincy to allow formidable flanker Jason White to concentrate on his own game.

"This year is more open than ever and the league is tougher than ever. Wasps, Leicester and Gloucester are favourites but the likes of Saracens, Bath, London Irish and ourselves are big challengers. It's going to be very competitive."
Director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre
