Harlequins have been steadily improving since their return to the top flight and last season they only missed out on a play-off place with a final-day defeat by Leicester.
Dean Richards has brought in accomplished New Zealand fly-half Nick Evans (left) to provide more guile to the backline.
The exclusion of the likes of David Strettle, Nick Easter and Will Skinner from England's Elite Player Squad can only help the side in their push for the play-offs.
"The squad is looking pretty good. We have a great balance between youth and experience and the side is maturing. That's the big difference from three years ago. I never set targets as such, I always feel they should endeavour to be top dogs."
