    Liverpool 0-2 Crystal Palace

    Michael Emons
    BBC Sport at Anfield

The Kop are doing their best to galvanise the Liverpool players with some great noise at the start of the second half, after Federico Chiesa had a shot blocked.

But Palace could have stretched their lead to three when Jean-Philippe Mateta was far too fast and too strong for Andy Robertson.

Liverpool struggled at the end of the first half defensively and will not have been happy to see Mateta, who already has seven goals this season in all competitions, come on at the start of the second half.

Using the EFL Cup to give fringe players an opportunity to prove themselves at a higher level is common among all the top clubs. Liverpool still have to fight for the top four, the Champions League and the FA Cup. It's just a fact that this tournament is not a priority.

Swansea are compact and the back and just about managing to hold them off for the time being.

    Wolves 1-3 Chelsea

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport Chelsea reporter

Chelsea are playing sloppily enough to concern manager Enzo Maresca.

The Italian just went over to Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella, who are warming up with intent, alongside fit again striker Liam Delap.

Wolves have pulled one back and deserved to and Chelsea have been poor since half-time.

As a lifelong Liverpool fan I’m starting to become concerned this team isn’t as good as we thought. We laughed at Manchester United, but I think they’ll win more trophies than us over the next three years.

If only Arne Slot had someone like Trent Alexander-Arnold to send on and rescue this tie.

Alexander-Arnold is back at Anfield next Tuesday. The thing is he will be turning out for Real Madrid.
