England axe Dallaglio
Dallaglio will have to look on from the sidelines
Former captain Lawrence Dallaglio has been dropped to the bench as England coach Clive Woodward rings the changes in the back row for Saturday's Test against Australia.
The Wasps player, who would have won his 50th cap, is replaced by Neil Back, who comes in at open-side flanker, with Richard Hill moving to number eight.
Kay won a vital line-out take near the end of the match against the All Blacks as England claimed only their fifth victory against the Kiwis. Dallaglio missed most of last season because of a serious knee injury and had hoped to make a major impression during England's autumn internationals. Woodward admitted that it had been a close call between Back and Dallaglio but backed the Wasps man to bounce back. "I am not rotating things here. Lawrence wasn't quite to the standard we are used to," said Woodward.
"I have got no doubt that his reaction will be positive." A disappointed Dallaglio said: "If you have a quiet game like I did last week, the coach is going to look at other options. "Previously in my career when I have been licking my wounds, I have come back stronger." There is also a change in the replacements, with Gloucester's in-form scrum-half Andy Gomarsall joining Dallaglio on the bench in place of Saracens centre Ben Johnston.
Will Greenwood, who was replaced by Johnston at half-time against the All Blacks after suffering a dead leg, is "99.9%" certain to be fit to take his place in the centres.
Australia go into the match on the back of an 18-9 defeat by Ireland last Saturday.
England: J Robinson (Sale Sharks); J Simpson-Daniel (Gloucester), W Greenwood (Harlequins), M Tindall (Bath), B Cohen (Northampton); J Wilkinson (Newcastle), M Dawson (Northampton); T Woodman (Gloucester), S Thompson (Northampton), P Vickery (Gloucester), M Johnson (Leicester, capt), B Kay (Leicester), L Moody (Leicester), N Back (Leicester), R Hill (Saracens).
