Toulouse end Edinburgh's dreams
Yann Delaigue scored a brace of tries for Toulouse
Toulouse 50-17 Edinburgh
Edinburgh's hopes of advancing further in the Heineken Cup came to a swift end at the hands of Toulouse. The French side put in a display full of pace and power for a comfortable victory on home soil to stay unbeaten in Pool Five. Edinburgh needed a win to have a chance of keeping their campaign alive and they got off to a perfect start though a Brendan Laney penalty.
But the home side responded with three quick-fire tries in the space of 11 minutes to set them up for victory. Veteran stand-off Yann Delaigue was a key figure, claiming two of the scores and setting up the other. Delaigue's first came after he outpaced Todd Blackadder to cross and he went on to add the conversion. He turned provider for the second with a superb cross-field kick which allowed Vincent Clerc to go over. Delaigue then cruised through an enormous gap to complete his double, adding the extra points as well as a penalty.
Although Laney went over for a try and conversion, the home side quickly regained the initiative again. Scrum-half Frederic Michalak sent Irish Test lock Trevor Brennan over while Garbajosa also powered his way through with Delaigue converting both. Simon Taylor cut the Toulouse lead, getting onto the end of a 50 metre move for a try which Laney converted. But Toulouse had the final say with tries by replacement Gregory Lamboley and number eight Christian Labit.
