Trials for the new Guernsey American football team are going well

The resurrection of the Guernsey Gladiators American football team is still on track, according to the former England coach running the side.

Steve Rains says 35 players turned up to the side's second training session in pouring rain.

He is hoping to revive the island's American football team, which previously folded in 1990.

The Guernsey Gladiators were unbeaten in their final season and never lost a match to rivals the Jersey Senates.

Trials continue on Sunday, 10 August at St Germain at 1430 BST.

If the side were to reform they could take up a place in the second division of the British American Football league.

But as a team in the league already has the name 'Gladiators', the club are looking to try and find a new nickname for the Guernsey side.
