Could Guernsey play the likes of the Cornish Sharks next season?
Guernsey could have its own American football team as early as next season, according to a former England coach.
Steve Rains now lives in Guernsey and hosted a session which saw 74 players try out for the side.
Guernsey had a team, the Gladiators, back in the 1990s, but as the sport's popularity faded towards the end of the decade so did the team.
But Rains says there are enough players on the island who, if they wished to, could form a side.
"There's some real talent amongst the group," Rains told BBC Guernsey.
"One of the things that particularly pleased me was that there were people that fitted into all of the criteria for the different positions. We've got everything it takes to make a team."
However, if Guernsey were to join the UK league they could not be known as the Gladiators.
The British American Football League has a rule which says no two teams may play with the same nickname, and Colchester's side are known as the Gladiators.
The Guernsey Gladiators made their debut in the South West American Football League in 1989 and played the following three seasons in the British league, winning the South West Conference first division with a perfect 10 wins from 10 record.
They then played two seasons in the next league up, the BNGL Premier Division South East Conference, but failed to make the play-offs.
If they were to join the UK league they would be likely to start in the second division of the British American Football league, either in the South West Conference alongside the likes of the Cornish Sharks and Plymouth Admirals, or in the South East Conference against teams including the Essex Spartans and Colchester Gladiators.
