Monaghan and Tyrone earn wins
New Antrim manager PJ O'Hare clearly has a tough job on his hands
PJ O'Hare's Antrim side were well-beaten by Tyrone
Monaghan and Tyrone claimed wins in Sunday's McKenna Cup quarter-finals.

Owen Mulligan hit 2-3 in Tyrone's 3-16 to 2-8 win over Antrim at Ballinascreen.

In the other tie at fog-affected Ballinascreen, first half goals from Damien Freeman and Kieran Tavey helped Monaghan defeat an understrength Derry 2-12 to 0-11.

Both Mulligan's goals came in the third minute to put Tyrone in immediate control against PJ O'Hare's Antrim.

O'Hare's was taking charge of Antrim for the first time in a competitive fixture but he won't have been impressed with his team's first half display with Tyrone leading 2-9 to 0-3 at the break.

By that stage, Tyrone had lost Mulligan with the forward going off because of a suspected ankle injury.

PJ O'Hare's son Darren grabbed a goal for Antrim in the 47th minute but Sean Cavanagh put further daylight between the teams with Tyrone's third three-pointer 12 minutes from time.

Kevin Brady grabbed Antrim's second goal in injury-time.

Tyrone will play Cavan in the semi-finals at Breffni Park next Sunday.

In the Ballinascreen game, both Monaghan goals came in the first half which left Colm Coyle's side 2-5 to 0-5 ahead.

The Monaghan win was no great surprise as Derry were fielded a very much understrength side.

Tavey top-scored with 1-3 for Monaghan while Freeman contributed 1-2.

Meanwhile, Down hurlers were beaten 3-19 to 1-14 by Dublin in Sunday's Walsh Cup game at Portmarnock.

In San Diego meanwhile, the scoreline in the Allstars football match indicated the non-competitive nature of the fixture.

The 2002 Vodafone Allstars defeated the 2001 side 13-18 to 9-19.
