Workington Comets team manager Ian Thomas has told of his pride after his side won the Young Shield final 98-89 against Berwick Bandits on Wednesday.
Thomas' side were beaten on the night but hung on to their overall advantage to clinch the silverware for the first time since the club formed in 1970.
"We've got silverware and it is brilliant," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"I'm speechless, which is unusual for me and it's been the best season ever for Workington speedway."
Hundreds of fans made the journey across from West Cumbria to Berwick and Thomas was delighted with the support shown by the crowd on a cold weeknight.
"For a Wednesday night, some of these people must have taken time off work," he said.
"There's more Workington fans here than there were on Saturday. Absolutely brilliant."
Workington guest rider Jason Lyons top scored with 18 points from his heats, while Berwick guest Tai Woffinden notched 13 points as Berwick tried in vain to overhaul the deficit.
