Final round - Tiger at the USPGA
Woods at the first - where he made a great par
Look back at Tiger Woods' final round the Hazeltine course during his final round at the USPGA.
Tiger's fourth round score:
Tiger Woods recorded a final round of 67 to finish on nine under for the tournament.
Back-to-back bogeys at the 13th and 14th seemed to have ended his chances but then consecutive birdies at the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th have got him back to nine under. But his compatriot Rich Beem has taken the title with a great round of his own.
Hole-by-hole
Hole 18: He hits the fairway here for the first time in three days. His second is quite simply brilliant and he has a five footer for another birdie. He sinks it for an unbelievable four birdie finish.
Hole 17: Another scintillating shot gets him to within 15 feet of the pin. He sinks the putt and refuses to fade away.
Hole 16: Two great shots leave Woods with a good birdie chance at what is the most difficult hole on the course. Another birdie for the world number one.
Hole 15: For such a fearsome competitor, Woods seems to have lost heart. His tee shot is awful but his recovery is magical and he is maybe 50 yards from the pin. His pitch is better as well - he must and does make a birdie.
Hole 14: Woods seems rocked - the pivotal moment may have been seeing that Beem got to 10 under. He hits two messy shots and is off the green at this straight forward par four. His chip is also erratic and he may lose another shot at this hole, with a 15 foot putt for par. He comes up short and goes back to five under.
Hole 13: With a seven iron, he lands his tee shot exactly 204 yards and will have a good birdie chance. But an amazing three putt from just 15 feet possibly ends Woods' chances of winning.
Hole 12: Normal service is resumed with a solid tee shot to the middle of the fairway. His approach seems perfect but flies to the back of the green. His chip, not surprisingly, is almost perfect and he has a short par putt.
Hole 11: For perhaps the first time in this round, Woods is errant with his tee shot on this hole, pushing it over to the right. He punches his second back to the fairway and has a good chance to reach the green. He makes a brilliant attempt at a birdie after a poor approach but has to settle for par.
Hole 10: A solid iron from the tee and a good second leave him another long range effort for birdie. The ball just slips past the hole on the left side.
Hole nine: Woods just misses a birdie after two excellent shots give him a 30 foot putt to pick up another shot.
Hole eight: After a poor tee shot, he pitches his second to within a foot of the hole for an exceptional par.
Hole seven: After two expert shots, Woods is on the green on this par five. An excellent two-putt gives him another birdie - he is now just a shot off the lead.
Hole six: After a perfect drive, Woods makes a perfect approach and then holes his birdie putt to get his charge going.
Hole five: Woods hits two excellent shots to leave himself a 20 foot putt for birdie. The putt slips by on the left but he makes another par.
Hole four: His best shot of the day so far, a six iron to within 15 feet of the hole. He sinks the putt for his first birdie.
Hole three: Woods unleashes a massive drive on this mammoth par five but he still has to lay-up with his second. His third fails to get very close and although his putt is beautifully judged, it fails to drop. Another par.
Hole two: A solid iron into the middle of the fairway. His approach finds the green, but he is a long way from the pin. His putt does not threaten the hole but it is a par. Hole one: Woods hits an immaculate three wood off the tee to the heart of the fairway. His second is an appalling shot off the green. He can do little with his pitch and is already facing a bogey on the opening hole.
But this is no ordinary golfer - he chips in for a par which must feel like a birdie. |
