Hoddle rejects Keane link
Leeds striker Robbie Keane
Keane turned down a move to Sunderland
Tottenham boss Glenn Hoddle has dismissed reports linking the club with a move for Leeds striker Robbie Keane.

White Hart Lane director of football David Pleat had declared earlier this week: "We are keeping abreast of the Robbie Keane situation."

That led to further speculation that Darren Anderton could go the other way in a swap deal.

But Hoddle swiftly hit back at Pleat's comments, saying: "If someone wants to give you a bum steer, then so be it.

"If people want to know they should ask me. I have a list of players I want - and Keane is not on it."

Anderton's agent Leon Angel also denied reports linking the England midfielder with a move to join his old mentor Terry Venables in Yorkshire.

"Darren has three years on his contract and he is perfectly happy at Spurs," Angel told BBC Sport Online.

"You never know with these things but it is really just people playing guessing games."

Leeds had agreed to sell Keane to Sunderland earlier this month before the player turned down a move to the Stadium of Light.

Spurs have already added Jamie Redknapp, Milenko Acimovic, Jonathan Blondel and Rohan Ricketts to their squad.

But Hoddle needs a young attacker to lead his forward line.

Keane joined Coventry from Wolves for 6m in 1999 - but was on his way to Inter Milan in a shock 13m deal less than 12 months later.

That move did not work out, prompting a loan back to England with Leeds before the Yorkshire club signed on a permanent basis for 12m in April 2001.
