Reading left-back Nicky Shorey has signed a new deal to extend his stay at the Madejski stadium.
The 25-year-old has one year remaining on his contract but his new deal will keep him at Reading until 2009.
Shorey has made 218 appearances for the Royals since joining them from Leyton Orient in 2001.
Director of football Nick Hammond told Reading's website: "We're delighted, Nicky's an important part of our plans for the Premiership."
Shorey was voted into the Professional Footballers' Association's Championship team of the season for the last campaign.
Hammond added: "We've seen even at international level that quality left-backs are very hard to come by.
"We're confident that as Nicky steps into the Premiership a wider audience will begin to appreciate his talents and he will gain further recognition."
Royals chairman John Madejski said: "Nicky played an integral role in our rise to the Premiership and we're delighted to agree this contract.
"We have every confidence in his ability to be a big success in the Premiership and believe he is more than capable of performing at the very highest level."
