Colchester United have agreed to pay £125,000 to Hamilton Academical for the services of striker Joel Thomas.
The 22-year-old, once on the books of Bordeaux in his French homeland, signed for Accies last summer after leaving German club Kaiserslautern.
Thomas made only 10 starts for Accies, scoring once in his 29 appearances.
He had been on trial with Dundee United and Wigan Athletic before winning a contract with United's Scottish Premier League rivals in August.
Now he has been recruited by Colchester's Scottish manager, Paul Lambert, for their forthcoming League One campaign.
