Goalkeeper Adam Collin has agreed a two-year contract with Carlisle United after spending much of last season training with the first-team squad.
The 24-year-old joins from Workington Red after starting his career at Newcastle United with loan spells at Doncaster Rovers and Oldham.
Cumbrians boss Greg Abbott told the club website: "He's a young player we have wanted to bring in for a while.
"He now has the opportunity to put pressure on Ben Williams."
He added: "What we will see now is two good keepers competing for the number one spot, and I'm sure that they will push each other all the way.
"It's a real opportunity for Adam to show he can be a professional League One keeper."
