Booth (l) re-joined the Cumbrians following a spell at Preston North End
Carlisle assistant manager Dennis Booth has signed an 18-month deal.
Booth took the role on a temporary basis in November 2008 when Greg Abbott was put in charge of the side.
The former England Under-21 and Preston North End coach was previously the Cumbrians' assistant from October 2003 until June 2006.
Abbott told the club website: "We work really well together, and that is extremely important to me. He is a very honest man, I can trust him 100%."
Meanwhile, manager Abbott has told BBC Radio Cumbria that he is targeting several new signings in the transfer window.
"I won't go out willy-nilly signing anybody," he said. "By the end of today I could do that and bring four players in, no problem.
"But we need four players who are going to make us better. We can't just go down the line of making signings for the sake of making signings to keep people happy.
"We need to be patient and pick the right people and there's already a lot of work that has gone on."
