Mifsud was in Bristol over the weekend to agree a move
Bristol City are still waiting to complete the signing of Coventry's Malta international Michael Mifsud.
The 27-year-old striker agreed terms and passed a medical over the weekend and was expected to sign on Monday.
Meanwhile Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock has denied newspaper reports that he tried to hijack the move.
"Someone has been a bit naughty there, I've had no interest in him whatsoever, I never have and I never will, " Warnock told the BBC London 94.9.
"Don't believe what the tabloids tell you," he added. "They just pick whatever they want to every day and just put it in."
Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown told fans at the club's open day on Sunday that he expected the deal to be completed on Monday but the player is believed to still be sorting out details with Coventry.
"He's happy with the football and the terms and he'll be the player we've been missing," manager Gary Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol.
"There's another striker we've made an offer for that I'm very excited about - I think people will really like him."
Johnson added: "I don't want to go too over the top yet, but they will really like him and give us extra competition."
Johnson has revealed the player is a target man, but will not reveal his identity until a deal is completed.
"I don't like discussing it because if I do there will be 20 other teams having a look at him," he said.
"He's got that real good pace up there and cleverness to get in on goal one-on-one, he's always looking to get in behind defenders," he added.
