Colin Lee is hoping to create a piece of FA Cup history for Walsall.

After a hard-fought 1-0 win over Wimbledon, Lee revealed he wants to become the first manager to take Walsall into the last eight.

"When I first came to the club what I wanted more than anything else for the club and the players was recognition," he said.

"I have learned so much since I came here. Not only do we have to manage the players, you have to stay in control of the financial situation.

"Over the last week alone I have lost the chance of signing three players because I just cannot afford to bring them in.

"We are in a lot better shape than we were 12 months ago but unfortunately that is the situation we still find ourselves in."

Walsall accrued �75,000 in prize money for winning the game, and there is also the prospect of a lucrative tie in Monday's draw.

The money will also come in handy for the relaying of Walsall's atrocious pitch, which is to ripped up.

The pitch cost either side any chance of employing a passing game and looked certain to ensure a replay until Aussie striker David Zdrilic swept home Jorge Leitao's cross 16 minutes from time.

"You shouldn't have to be thinking about control and passing but that's what has happened over the last few months," said Lee.

Graciously, Dons boss Stuart Murdoch refused to blame the conditions for his team's demise.

"You have to give Walsall some credit because we didn't start very well at all."
