Herschelle Gibbs says he has joined Yorkshire at a good time as he prepares for his debut against Derbyshire in the FP t20 at Headingley on Thursday.

The South Africa batsman told BBC Radio Leeds: "I've always enjoyed playing cricket in the UK. I've fitted in really nicely and got to know the lads.

"The confidence is good. I've come at a good time and the guys are excited about the competition."

The 36-year-old ex-Glamorgan man agreed to join Yorkshire in February.

Having played Twenty20 with Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League, Gibbs added: "There's so much of it played now that we all build up a nice CV with regard to Twenty20 cricket.

We're here to entertain and make it good for the spectators and if they enjoy the experience with us then all the better

"We are learning season by season and there are so many different criteria as far as the format is concerned.

"The English have been frontrunners with regards to Twenty20 and it's no surprise they have won the World Cup. Its unpredictable and you learn something all the time.

"It's still early doors and conditions vary from country to country with the weather playing its part but I'm sure the wickets will be good.

"We're here to entertain and make it good for the spectators and if they enjoy the experience with us then all the better."
