Northamptonshire have agreed a one-year deal with 24-year-old seam bowler Jack Brooks, who has been on trial at the County Ground.
The Oxfordshire-based player has also had a trial at Surrey.
And Brooks recently took six for 90 playing for Northamptonshire's 2nd XI against Warwickshire.
Brooks said: "Having played for Oxfordshire in the Minor Counties, I was hoping to take the next step and move into the professional game."

He added: "I am now looking forward to working with the coaches in the winter to improve my game with the intention of staking a claim for first-team opportunities in 2009."
Northants academy director David Ripley said: "Jack is a player we have kept our eye on over the summer and he has certainly turned our heads.
"He has been plying his trade for Oxford CC in the Home Counties League and been very successful.
"Together with this, he has shown he has what it takes to be successful at 2nd XI level and, with his talent, we will look for him to push for a first-team place next season."
