Northampton Saints winger Chris Ashton says his confidence is growing as he prepares for the Heineken Cup tie against French club, Perpignan.
The 22-year-old has returned to the team in recent weeks and scored two tries against Munster in the Saints' opening European victory.
"Last year I did struggle. It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be," Ashton told BBC Radio Northampton.
"I feel back to myself. I feel a happier player."
Ashton had a disappointing season last year in the Guinness Premiership, after a record-breaking season in National One the year before.
"I've taken it a bit slower and watched a lot of rugby. I don't know whether it was a lack of confidence. I just hope it comes off for me," he added.
The Saints take on Perpignan on Friday in France.
"We're not getting too over-excited about Friday. I mean, we did well [against Munster]. It's going to be even bigger over at Perpignan," added Ashton.
"They're a massive club. We're hopefully going to match them. Whatever they throw at us, we'll give them a good game."
