Leeds 18-16 Exeter Chiefs

Tom Biggs
Winger Biggs' try won the game for Leeds

Leeds Carnegie came from behind to claim a dramatic win over National One title rivals Exeter at Headingley.

The Chiefs led 16-6 midway through the second half thanks to a Josh Drauniniu try and two Gareth Steenson penalties.

Leeds fought back to edge in front with a penalty try and Tom Biggs' effort, while Jason Strange added eight points with the boot.

Steenson had a chance to win the game for Exeter deep into injury time, but his penalty from halfway fell short.

Victory ensured Leeds stayed in pole position to gain promotion back to the Premiership at the first attempt, having extended their lead over second-placed Exeter - who earned a losing bonus point - to eight points with their 17th straight win.

Leeds director of rugby Andy Key told BBC Radio Leeds:

"Credit to the players, as they showed fantastic composure at the right time.

"You can be the best team physically prepared, but at times it's actually more the mental side of things that wins you games.

"I'm very proud of the lads because Exeter threw everything at us."
