Priaulx won the championship for three years in a row

Guernsey's Andy Priaulx has lost any chance of regaining his World Touring Car Championship title this year. The BMW Team UK driver finished 15th and 9th at Imola in Italy to end up 43 points adrift with only 40 points available in the rest of the season. Yvan Muller, who won the 2008 drivers' championship, leads with Priaulx in fourth, where he finished last year. Priaulx won three world championships in a row after securing the inaugural title in 2005. Priaulx said: "It was not brilliant for us and was a lot of hard work. It could have been great, but we needed a bit of luck and it was not on our side. "I have to just make sure I do my best in the remaining four rounds so I can be as high up as possible in the championship."
