Three days shy of her 32nd birthday, Sorenstam carded a bogey-free seven-under-par 65 for a six-stroke victory over Cristie Kerr.

Her four-round total of 22-under 266 was the best on tour in relation to par this season.

Sorenstam has won half of the tournaments that she has started on the LPGA Tour this year.

Only five players have won as many as nine events in a season, the last being Nancy Lopez in 1978.

One of Sorenstam's goals is to break the single-season record for wins, set by Mickey Wright, who had 13 in 1963.

Sorenstam has won three straight tour events and would have to claim the last five on the schedule.

Sorenstam also became the 10th player to win 40 titles on the LPGA Tour.

She is within one victory of Babe Zaharias for ninth place all-time.

The Swedish star began the final round in a tie for the lead with Kerr but birdied the first hole and never looked back.

She had four birdies on a bogey-free front side and led by four strokes at the turn.

Seeking her second career title, Kerr took herself out of contention by double-bogeying the opening hole.

She rallied for a one-under 71 and finished second at 16-under 272.

First-round leader Michele Redman was third at 273, two strokes better than Se Ri Pak of South Korea and Rosie Jones.

The elite tournament was limited to the top-17 money winners on the US LPGA Tour and the top earners from Europe, Korea and Japan.
