Future European Ryder Cup teams may comprise more players from the US Tour, according to Ken Schofield, director of the European PGA tour.

Despite the success at The Belfry a week ago, there have been calls for an enhanced system of qualification for the team.

Some top European players, such as Sergio Garcia and Jesper Parnevik are relying on receiving a wild card pick because of their commitments on the US Tour.

Of the 12 men picked to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup, 10 are automatically selected from the European Order of Merit, with the other two chosen by the captain.

"My campaign is to qualify the maximum number of players. I'm very happy with 10 qualifying and two captain's picks," Schofield told Radio Five Live.

"It's such a huge thing to make the Ryder Cup team, that one should earn that right over a period of qualification.

"But if there should be change, the world ranking system has become more accepted, it's embracing all of our own tournaments and those on the other tours.

"It's becoming more sophisticated with each passing year and maybe some thought will be given to it."

Schofield would not be drawn on who would likely replace Sam Torrance as Ryder Cup captain and admitted that it was not his choice.

"There's a good line there of great Ryder Cup players who could and would replace Sam.

"I have no say whatsoever and I have to say I am delighted!"

He said the decision was taken by the Ryder Cup players committee, the members of which would be putting forward their suggestions in December.

"There are a number of senior players reflecting whether they have one more match in them as a player."
