Medals for Jersey on opening day

Jersey's Ward and Quennault took silver in the 50m free pistol event

Jersey has won two bronzes and one silver in the first day of the Island Games in Aland.

The first medal of the day for Jersey came from the shooting range when David Ward and Michael Quennault won silver in the 50m free pistol event.

The pair were just one point ahead of bronze winners Aland, and 16 behind Gotland who took gold.

The bronzes were in athletics, for Daniel Halksworth in the 10,000m and Jason Fox in the High Jump.

Halksworth finished third behind Guernsey's Stephen Dawes in second and Janne Holmen of Aland in first.

Jason Fox took the bronze medal in the High Jump, clearing 2.03m just 2cm behind silver medallist Omar Wright of the Cayman Islands and 4cm behind first placed Perry Anglin, also of the Cayman Islands in first.
