Llambias [right] has a close working relationship with owner Mike Ashley
Newcastle United managing director Derek Llambias has reassured fans there will be money to spend during the summer, but not on a major scale.
Clubs such as Manchester City have raised the bar in spending terms but Llambias confirmed Newcastle cannot afford to compete with such sums.
"The money is there and we intend to spend it," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.
"Mike [Ashley] is a very wealthy man but can he afford £30m a year? No. But he'll be happy with £5m-10m."
The Magpies are one of a number of clubs at the bottom end of the Premier League looking to avoid the drop into the Championship.
But Llambias is confident that the club can secure their place in next season's top flight, and has faith in the club's plans for the future and the club's current managerial set-up.
