Motherwell are closing in on a new manager, having received a flood of applications to replace Maurice Malpas.
A club statement said: "We have been pleasantly surprised with level of interest and the quantity and quality of candidates has been excellent.
"The club has now drawn up a short list of people that they would like to consider for the position.
"The names on this list will be contacted and hopefully spoken to in the next week or so."
Mark McGhee and Tommy McLean are front runners for the Fir Park job, while Joe Miller and Luc Nijholt are known to have applied.
But former Well and Scotland midfielder Gary McAllister has distanced himself from the post, along with St Johnstone boss Owen Coyle.
The club statement continued: "There is no rush at the moment as this is an important decision and one that the club wants to get right.
"While this process is ongoing caretaker manager Scott Leitch is still working away to tie up any new signings for next season thus ensuring there is continuity at the club in the short term."
