Horsfield may be offered a coaching role as an incentive to sign
Lincoln City manager Peter Jackson says he hopes striker Geoff Horsfield will join the Imps in time for Saturday's match at Morecambe.
Horsfield, 35, is looking to return to football after cancer treatment.
He has been training with Lincoln this month and travelled with the squad for their last match at Luton.
Jackson told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "We'll see how the next couple of days go, but hopefully he might be involved in some capacity at Morecambe."
Lincoln chairman Steff Wright hinted that the former Fulham, West Brom, Birmingham and Sheffield United striker could be given coaching opportunities as an incentive to sign a contract at Sincil Bank.
Wright said: "First and foremost he'll have a playing role, but if he's got an eye on a coaching or managerial career in future then he could take the reserves or do one or two other things and work closely with Peter.
"That would be a great thing for his CV when he retires. If Geoff can see that he can get something out of Lincoln that will help in his future career, rather than just a few extra quid, then perhaps that will be his motivation."
