Spencer made 120 appearances and scored 35 goals for Cheltenham
Kettering Town have signed out-of-contract striker Damian Spencer from League Two side Cheltenham Town.
The 27-year-old was with the Robins for the seven years, also spending time on loan at last season's League Two champions Brentford.
"I'm delighted to have got Damian on board and am pleased with the options we now have up top," Kettering manager Mark Cooper told the club's website.
"This is unlikely to be the last movement before the opening day."
Spencer has also had spells with Bristol City and Exeter City.
Poppies chairman Imraan Ladak said: "Damian has been Mark's number one transfer target over the whole summer.
"We showed last season that we are strong at the back but we have been searching for something extra up front and he's the one we have been after for a long time."
Spencer joins new arrivals James Jennings and Francis Green at the Elgood's Brewery Arena, while goalkeeper Lee Harper also agreed a new deal.
But centre half Guy Branston looks set to sign for Torquay.
"The club are in talks with Torquay and if they match our valuation which I don't think is far away then he will become a Torquay player," Cooper told BBC Radio Northampton.
"It will be a big loss for us but things move on and that's football."
