Crewe Alexandra keep Chelsea keeper Rhys Taylor

Chelsea's Wales under-21 goalkeeper Rhys Taylor is set to remain at Crewe Alexandra until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has agreed to take up his option of a season-long loan with the League Two club.

Alex manager Dario Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke: "Rhys is not expecting to be recalled by Chelsea and he wants to stay with us which is fine."

Taylor's decision means Gradi will allow Steve Phillips to join another club on loan.

The 32-year-old has recovered from a shoulder operation which forced him to miss pre-season training.

"Now I know we have got Rhys and I have Bartek Fogler as a back-up keeper I can allow Steve to go out on loan as I fully understands that he wants to play," said the Crewe boss.

Gradi is also in talks with a full-back about joining Crewe on an emergency loan.

Injuries to Matt Tootle and Mat Mitchel-King have forced the Alex manager to look for reinforcements.

"We do have someone in mind and have opened preliminary talks with him," Gradi told the club website.
