Cardiff City have ended their pursuit of Major League Soccer star Kenny Cooper.
Bluebirds boss Dave Jones has run out of patience with FC Dallas' 23-year-old striker, who has scored eight goals in 16 Major League games this season.
Jones said: "I've ended the Kenny Cooper thing. It's been dragging on for too long.
"Regardless of everything else that's been said I've told the agent I want to pull away from it."
Jones added: "It's been dragging on too long and it's as if you're waiting for other people to come in and see what the offers are.
"We're not in it for that so hopefully we can have a couple of players in by the start of the week and that would be fantastic for us."
FC Dallas have been reluctant to lose Cooper.
General manager Michael Hitchcock said: "We received offers from multiple international clubs for Kenny during the transfer window.
"But we elected to decline them all. Winning championships is our priority."
Norwegian side Rosenborg were also interested in Cooper making a reported £2m bid which the Bluebirds matched.
Winger-turned-striker Paul Parry, summer signing Ross McCormack and transfer-listed Steve Thompson are the only forwards at Ninian Park following the release of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Robbie Fowler.
Marcus Bent's 11th-hour decision to snub Cardiff and sign for Championship rivals Birmingham City has epitomised manager Dave Jones' frustrations in the transfer market this summer.
Jones also wants Kris Boyd from Rangers, but the Scotland striker, who scored 27 goals last term, does not want to move to south Wales.
But Ridsdale insists: "We are in a strong position to look forward to the new season."
Cardiff kick-off the new Championship campaign at home to Southampton on 9 August.
