Cambridge winger Andy Parkinson is looking to repay the club's faith in him after spending most of last season on the sidelines with injury.
The 30-year-old recovered from knee ligament damage in March and had feared he would be transfer listed before the start of next season.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I had a great physio in Greg Reid. I didn't really want the season to end.
"I had a meeting with the manager and he said they've got faith in me."
The U's have transfer listed Jon Challinor and Courtney Pitt to help cut the wage bill and Parkinson admits he was relieved to be told he had a future at the Abbey Stadium.
"In this day and age nobody's certain of their future any more. In the current economic climate I think every club is cutting wages and budgets.
"So for me personally I've got another year left on my contract and that's great for me because I didn't play too much last season."
