Laursen comeback may be delayed

Aston Villa captain Martin Laursen could face four weeks on the sidelines
Martin Laursen has given up playing for Denmark to focus on club football

Martin Laursen's return to the Aston Villa team may be slightly delayed after his knee swelled up in training.

Villa manager Martin O'Neill said: "He was doing fine and then his knee got a bit sore and puffed up a little bit after training.

"Hopefully it will only be a three or four-day setback. But any setback would be a genuine one because of Martin's importance to the team."

Villa skipper Laursen, 31, has been out since knee surgery in January.

Following his return from the club's training camp in Dubai, O'Neill added: "Maybe his enthusiasm was too strong.

"He was possibly doing too much, too soon. But we will see.

"He may even have been ahead of schedule at one stage, so we hope it's a minor setback at the moment."

Laursen aggravated his knee injury during Villa's win over West Bromwich Albion in January.

He subsequently announced his retirement from international football in an attempt to prolong his club career.
