Former Worcester City captain Chris Smith is expected to join Tamworth.
The 26-year-old centre-half was released by City at the end of the season ahead of the club's switch to the Blue Square South.
City boss Richard Dryden turned down a bid for Smith from AFC Telford United in January.
Meanwhile, Smith's former defensive partner Ryan Clarke is reported to be in talks with Boston United about a possible move to York Street.
