Jones has not played for Worcestershire since 9 August 2008
Worcestershire seamer Simon Jones has insisted his career is not finished despite being ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.
The 30-year-old was sidelined after having fluid drained from his knee last week following an operation in April.
He told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "I'm devastated but the good thing is the cartilage is in good nick.
"The surgeon is happy with the knee and it's just a matter of giving it time and it will be fine."
Jones joined Worcestershire from Glamorgan in October 2007 but only played nine games last season due to injuries and he has not featured at all during 2009.
The former England paceman proved the county's star performer when fit, taking 42 wickets for an average of just 18.2.
Even on his final appearance last season, against Derbyshire in the County Championship at New Road, he was in scintillating form and took a five-wicket haul.
But he is out of contract at the end of this season, and with a litany of injury problems since the 2005 Ashes series, his future now looks unclear.
"I don't think it has hit me yet, but it's going to at some point, it's just a question keeping your chin up," he added.
"I'm just going to go home to my family, try to relax and try not to think about anything and I'm sure we will be chatting next week
"I love it here at Worcester. It's a great club, I'm really happy, but I've just got to do such a long rehab again.
"It's going to be a long old winter, but it's got to be done. I'm just going to stay as positive as I can."
