Yardy said his side flourished in front of a sell-out crowd at Edgbaston

Sussex captain Mike Yardy said his side's 63-run win over Somerset in the Twenty20 Cup final at Edgbaston was down to a collective team effort. A 26-ball 59 from Dwayne Smith propelled Sussex to 172-7, before Somerset were dismissed for just 109. "I don't think we've got any of the top run-scorers or wicket-takers in the competition," Yardy told BBC Sport. "It has been an all-round team effort, and the commitment the lads have put in with the coaches has paid dividends." As well as picking up a cheque for £42,000, Sussex also booked their place in the inaugural Champions League tournament, which will be held in India in October. "I've played in India before and I know how partisan the crowd are," said the all-rounder. "There's some big sums of money being bandied around and hopefully we can go out there and do ourselves justice. "It's fantastic for us as county cricketers to go out there and maybe earn that sort of money." However, Sussex may be without Smith, whose Indian Premier League side Deccan Chargers have also qualified for the 12-team tournament. "We obviously want him to play for us. When you play in the big matches, you want your best players available," said Yardy.

606: DEBATE
|
"I'm not sure what the situation is just yet, but I'm sure it will discussed in the next couple of weeks." The victory in the Twenty20 Cup final comes just three weeks after Sussex were soundly beaten by Hampshire in the final of the Friends Provident Trophy. "We learnt a lot from that game, particularly the mental side of playing on the big stage," said Yardy. "It's a different kettle of fish when you play in front of big crowds, especially with all the hype that surrounds these occasions. "But we dealt with the occasion really well today and this win makes up for the defeat to Hampshire."
